In our last post we told you that we bought a house in the village where our land is. We are spending a good amount of time and energy to transform this old house into a home to love.
A new place for beauty
Here is an example. We wanted to create a bathroom on the first floor. We show you the steps from idea to realization.
It all started with a terrace in the shade, at the entrance of the house.
Finding the best layout -the bucket stands for a toilet.
The design on the way to reality
Washbasin placed et voilà – a new bathroom!
Becoming part of a village
There is a tradition in the village where we live. In these weeks, people create a nativity scene in their portico or in a street-facing window. From far and wide visitors come to walk around the village, admiring these scenes.
Until now we had not participated, but this year we created a nativity scene in a window next to our entry stair. It is one way to be part of our local community. Except for the lights we use recycled materials, many of them from the land we own close by. Cristina hand-crafted the figurines while I collected moss, pebbles, and placed the lights.
Our own and some of the neighbors creations
Meanwhile on the land
We have been cutting wood to size for our hearths. Our friendly neighbor operates the saw, we help stacking the pieces in the cart. He then drives the cart to our house, where we unload it and put it in our wood store. Wood warms several times, they say here.
A new development
Something is happening on this piece of land. Look closely and you’ll find it. More about this next time.
As Winter comes
The village sometimes takes on a touch of magic.
We see the renovation of this house as a teaching for our greater project. We have two houses there to be transformed – and about nine acres of land. It takes patience, perseverance, flexibility, opening up to many kinds of people, and a lot of trust for this dream to come true.
There’s magic in the journey.
